Jen Porter has been an author from a young age, where her office was found on a branch of her grandma’s big backyard tree. She started several novels in high school, one of which would later become The Frozen.

Then, she abandoned her long-time dream of becoming a veterinarian, got her BA in Language Arts/Teaching, spent six years teaching grades 5-12 language arts, then got her MA in Special Education – Field Specialization Autism, and spent 14 years teaching K-8 special ed (L3 Autism Focus).

Somewhere in there, she won a couple of awards in college for writing; married a firefighter or two, divorced one of them; became a mom of three, stepmom of two, and a grandmother of three; fostered a few dogs, foster-failed with a few dogs; finished The Frozen (a mere 28 years after starting it), won a couple of awards for teaching, and had about nine concussions.

Now she’s retired from teaching, and spends most of her time on her writing business, family, dogs, fish, and forcing herself to try to maintain healthy habits. She prefers to write with the company of her dogs in her home office, on her back deck, or by her koi pond—often with a soundtrack for ambiance.

She also enjoys many other hobbies: reading, movies, clarinet, piano, making jewelry, gardening, swimming, skating, and crocheting…but her husband claims to have married her because she can’t get enough Star Trek.
